Report of the High School Committee for the Year 1878
There are 277 pupils, including 101 new pupils of whom 13 were from the Prep. The increase in numbers has required changes of accommodation and has emphasised the need for new accommodation.
General comments on the good attendance and health of pupils.
Dr Walker examined 6 of the 13 classes in the school for the Cambridge Syndicate.
There are 79 pupils in the Prep of whom 13 are under 9 and 46 are new pupils. Miss Whitlock reports good attendance and health. The increase in numbers has required an increase in staff and there are now 2 assistant mistresses, 3 pupil teachers and teachers of French and music.
Dr Walker examined 2 classes in the Prep.
Difficulties have arisen because the Cambridge Local Exams are held in December at the same time as the school's exams. It has been decided to hold school exams and to end the school year in June. The whole school was examined in December 1877 and it was therefore decided to examine only 6 classes in June 1878.
Bryan Walker MA, LL D, Late Fellow of Corpus Christi College, Law Lecturer of St John?s College.
