In 1881 the new buildings at Dover Street were finished. In July when they were almost ready there was an entertainment including a concert and a play. After the summer holiday when the building was finally opened, the Governors hosted a soiree with a concert, a lecture by Professor Boyd Dawkins and a lecture by "another gentleman" on polarized light.
In 1882, just after Whit, another soiree was held to celebrate the conference of Headmistresses "from public and proprietary schools. A large number of guests being invited to meet these ladies."
