Report
The life of the school has continued with little disruption despite the "national crisis" [ie World War I]. The military authorities have taken over the Municipal School of Domestic Economy which is sited in High St and the School's 1,000 evening class students are now taught in the evening at the school. Other groups being accommodated in the school are the Red Cross, Central High School, Ducie Avenue School, the Association of Teachers of Domestic Economy, the Manchester and Salford Recreative Evening Classes Association, the Lancashire Cheshire and Derbyshire Association of Headmistresses, the Classical Association, the Modern Languages Association and the Folk Dancing Society.
There are 600 pupils, the maximum the school can accommodate. Many pupils are coming at an earlier age than previously or at about 15 years old. Few come at 14 and stay "for a year or so, a plan which is not in any way satisfactory."
