Report
The war [World War I] has greatly increased public interest in education. The school still has over its maximum of 600 pupils, the governors have decided to take at least 650 pupils and have rented houses ?across the road? at 44 and 46 Dover St. "For some years past" the Senior VI have been accommodated at 42 Dover St and they with Lower VI and Upper V pupils are now being accommodated in the three houses.

A new exam system established by the Joint Matriculation Board came into effect in July 1917 under which pupils take exams for a School Certificate. Details given of the school?s success.
There are new Officers' Daughters' Scholarships. Once every 3 years, a Behrens Scholar comes to the school from "The Jews School, Derby St, Cheetham." "This illustrates the traditional connection of the Jewish community in Manchester with this School from the earliest days." A pupil is taking a school certificate exam in Hebrew and is taught by a teacher who comes to the school for this purpose. "The Scholarship especially attached to Fylde Lodge" has been awarded for the first time to Irene Carter.

Note of the death of Miss Elizabeth Day who died on 14 August 1917.
Details given of the cost of renovations to the school. The price of food has risen and therefore the dinner fee has been increased to £2 per term for the 350 pupils who eat every day the school. The school has received a grant from the Board of Education in order to raise the salaries of the assistant teachers.
Regret that some girls are neglecting their school work because of "home duties".
