Welcome to J G Crozier as Treasurer and Archdeacon Selwyn Bean as a new governor. Congratulations to Sir Robert Pickard on his knighthood and appointment as Vice Chancellor of London University.

 

The speaker on Founders' Day was John Coatman of the BBC who was accompanied by his wife Theo Coatman [nee Pitt].

The speaker on Speech Day was the Bishop of Middleton. Regret at his subsequent death.

 

The Whit holidays were extended in honour of the coronation of George VI.

Joyce Rhodes, aged 12, has died of typhoid fever.

General comments on sporting successes.

Between January and July ?289 was raised by pupils for the new buildings at Grangethorpe. Gifts and promises amount to over £5,000. About two rooms and the grounds there were used in the summer term.

There were visits to Paris and Germany. The latter was undertaken by twelve girls as part of an exchange with a school in Brunswick.

Thanks to Miss Ashton for her help with the camp at Anglesey.

This year saw Miss Bourne?s last gym display.

Past and present Head Prefects took part in a Rally at the Albert Hall and a service at Westminster Abbey for the youth of the Empire at the coronation. The girls involved gave an account to the school of the "profound impression which they received from this experience."
