Report

Regret at the resignation of Dr Padmore as Chairman of the governing body [details given].

The new buildings at Grangethorpe were occupied in September 1940 and prayers on the first day, 18 September 1940 were conducted by the Venerable Selwyn Bean. The buildings were destroyed "by enemy action" on the night of 22 - 23 December 1940. By the end of the Christmas holidays the school had been accommodated in three houses in Didsbury. Thanks to the managers of St Aiden's Presbyterian Church, Mr L F Behrens and the governors of Withington School some additional accommodation has been acquired for assemblies. The Grangethorpe site has been requisitioned by Manchester Corporation as a storage depot for the duration of the war.

Regret at the resignations from the governing body of J Crozier and Sir Robert Pickard and at the death of Mrs Iliff. Welcome to the governing body to Canon Rowe, Councillor Mrs K Fletcher, Arnold Gibson, Councillor C Howarth, Alderman Wright Robinson, Mr A Simon and Mr W Zimmern.

The guest on Founders' Day was Rev J Moorman and a simple ceremony was held in his church in Fallowfield. No Speech Day was held but there were two Open Days at Broomfield and awards were presented at the second of these.
