Report

The school has been recognised as having Direct Grant status under the Education Act of 1944 and has been given permission to rebuild the school at Grangethorpe.

 

Regret at the resignations from the governing body of Councillor C Howarth and Mrs Williams. Welcome to Councillor Beavan. Congratulation to Mrs Fletcher on being made an Alderman.

 

Founders' Day was held in the Whitworth Hall, the speaker was Dr Eric James, the High Master of Manchester Grammar School and among those present were the following: Dr Padmore, Prof Fleure, Dr Clarke, Miss F Harrison.  Miss F Harrison brought some ivy for Founders' Day. 

The speaker on Speech Day was Miss Lynda Grier, previously Principal of Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford.

The school was visited by Miss Vlastu from a training college in Athens.

Talks [details given] were given by J Davison and Mrs David Anderson. 

Miss Pettigrew organised a camping trip for the guides. Miss Scott took a group of Rangers to a Rally [details given]. Miss Leigh, Miss Lever and Miss Roberts took a group pf girls to the SW Lancashire coast. Miss Bentley and Miss Kirkland took girls youth hostelling in Ireland. Thanks to Mrs Huntington and her staff for the refreshments at school parties. A School Magazine was produced although paper restrictions are still in force. Details given of community activities. Thanks to Mr and Mrs Behrens for the continued use of their garage.
