A Story of a Siege
Second story about Poland under Russian rule. [See also December 1883, A Christmas in Poland] E's grandmother, called Louise Wiecinski, tells her about the siege of Warsaw by the Russians. After a man leaves Warsaw to fight the Russians, his wife is told of a safe place outside the city. She leaves her two children to prepare this place. Her young son looks after his younger sister and they are helped to escape by a soldier who is killed in the process.

Old Pupils' Association
On 27 March 1884, the first meeting of the Association was held at Dover St. About 120 members were present. There was a concert, the performers were Edith Kelly, Alice Crompton, Edith Wilkinson, Alice M [no surname given], Ruth Lamb, Hilda Hughes.
There are about 250 members.
The annual subscription is 1 shilling.
The Association officers are:

Margaret Lea achieved the second highest mark among girls in England for Maths.
Beatrice Holme has won an entrance scholarship to Girton.
Miss Hodgkinson has resigned due to ill health.
Annie Heaton, an old girl who was first in the Cambridge Local Exams in 1879, has married.
