Mr and Mrs Donner
Mr and Mrs Donner allowed their grounds to be used for 2 tennis matches and put their garden at the disposal of staff for 2 weeks.
Free Trade Hall Meeting
The prizes were presented by Mrs W H Vaudrey, the Lady Mayoress
Among the guests on the platform were Mr T C Abbott, Dr Annie Anderson, Mrs E T Broadhurst, Rev S F Collier, Edward Donner, Canon Hicks, Mrs Hyland, Canon Kelly, Edwin W Marshall, John Mather, Mrs W Mather, Mrs Meek, Leonard Tatham, Hubert Teague, Mr T C Waterhouse.
The girls wore white with sashes of the colours of their schools.
Prof Wilkins, chair of the governors, said that all three schools are flourishing.
The three headmistresses presented their reports.
Governors and Visitors
Mr and Mrs Darbishire have resigned from the board of governors.
Mrs Buller, wife of the new rector of Birch, and Mrs Hopkinson have agreed to act as one of the Visitors of the school.
Mrs Pilkington has joined the board of governors. She lives on the other side of Manchester and therefore takes particular interest in the Pendleton school.

Victoria Teachers' Diploma
Congratulations to the students from Owens College who have gained the diploma including an old girl, Eleanor Roberts.
The Conference of the Librarians' Association
The conference was held in Manchester but the delegates were unable to visit the school.
John Rylands Library
The library was opened on 6 October. Sara Burstall gave a speech about it in school.
Sara Burstall's Lectures
Miss Burstall has given lectures [details given] to the following organisations: the Ladies' Bureau of the Local Branch of the National Union of Teachers, the Ladies� Literary Society and the Pendleton Silver Lining Society.
Manchester Literary and Philosophical Society
Miss Faraday has written a paper, "The Question of Irish Influence on Early Icelandic Literature as Illustrated by Irish Manuscripts in the Bodleian Library" which will be read at the next meeting {See Magazine for June 1900].
Botanical Walks
There have been 4 rambles [details given]. The following girls collected specimens: R Kerr, M Worsley, M Humphreys, C Moakes, B Fiddes, M Eaton, F Gleim.
M Humphreys deserves mention for her collection of pressed flowers but there have been too few entries by other girls which merit a prize.
Changes in the Staff

Leave of absence has been granted to Miss Perkins.

Miss Cecile Walsh is unable to return due to ill health.
Miss Macklin will leave at Christmas.

The deaths of the following have occurred: Ida Brereton who left the school in July 1897, Frida Kyllmann who left the school 1884.
Rounders
Rounders is "in a flourishing condition."
Tennis
The buying of a new net has left the Tennis Club "considerably in debt." Six matches were played this season [details given]. The school won the League Tournament [details given and see below]. The school was represented by Margaret Birch, Efi Horkenheimer. In the school handicap tournament [details given] the following took part: A Greengrass, A Wilce, A Collier, E Horkenheimer. Prizes [details given] were presented to the following: Marie Matthews, Isobel Morris, A Greengrass, A Collier, E Horkenheimer, A Wilce.
Hockey
Matches were played [details given] but the team misses the play of Margaret Birch, Mildred Taylor.
Fives
The Fives court is still "in course of erection."
Swimming
Miss May has held a swimming class throughout the summer. There was a swimming competition at Broughton baths [details given] in which the following took part: Margaret Cannon, Mabel Blackstock.
