At Speech Day the chair was taken by Prof Wilkins. He was supported by the headmistresses of the three schools, Sara Burstall, Miss Butcher and Miss Clark.

The chief guest was Mrs C P Scott [see above] to whom a vote of thanks was proposed by Canon Hicks and seconded by John Mather.

Autumn Term

Many classes have been taking exams.

�A new class has been formed for the special study of the domestic arts, called the Housewifery Class, which is working with interest at cookery, household needlework and such practical matters as cleaning silver etc as well as the more ordinary arithmetic, French and history.�

The whole of the North Wing is now being used by the school. It has been "where the Owens College Women Students used to be." 

There are now 388 pupils.

It is hoped to make the school concert an annual function.

A Geological Excursion

Description of a field trip to Derbyshire by Miss Coignou and four pupils.

 

Education Lectures

A new course has begun for practising teachers on the Theory, History and Practice of Education. Some of the school�s staff are attending and Sara Burstall is giving a course of lectures on School Organisation.

 

Women Students at Owens College

The women students from Owens College have moved from the North Wing of the school to a house in Oxford Rd which will be "a sort of Club House."

 

As You Like It

Several girls took part in a performance of As You Like It at Ashburne House. They included D Holme and R Taylor.

Debating Society

The Debating Society has been revived thank to Miss Lee. The Committee is:

Tennis

The champions are Agnes Collier, Efi Horkheimer, Amy Greengrass and Ethel Greengrass.

Details of matches played.

The Handicap Tournament was won by Efi Horkheimer and the runner up was Ethel Grenngrass.

Description of the Lancashire Girls' Schools' Lawn Tennis League Tournament which was again won by the school.

 

Fives

Fives is now a popular game.

Two Fives tournaments were held. One was won by Rita Sunderland and Amy Greengrass.

Miss Slater gave a prize for an Open Tournament which was won by Efi Horkheimer, the runner up was Mabel Blackstock.

It is difficult to arrange inter-school matches because few other schools have a Fives court.

 

Hockey

Description of a match against the women students of Owens College.

The school teams can now practice twice a week on the Women's Student's field at Fallowfield.

 

Prefects

The school Prefects are: M Hewitt, E Wainwright, J Clarkson, A Taylor, L Geiler, M Hawcridge, C Taplen, M McNicol, D Frazer.
