ADMISSIONS BOOKS
Five foolscap volumes, bound in blue, mainly hand written. These volumes were restored and rebound in 2004 with a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund.
Admissions Main School, 1898 - 1946.
Contains the following information about pupils:
- Name
- Age on entry into the school
- The class in which placed on entry into the school
- For entries between 1898 and 1905, a £ sign has been written beside some of the names, the meaning of this is unknown
- For entries between 1906 and 1946, notes have been included about whether the pupil had a bursary, a scholarship or a free place
Admssions Main School, 1946 - 1982.
Contains the following information about pupils:
- Name
- Age on entry into the school
- The class in which placed on entry into the school
- Whether the pupils had a free place or a reserved place with details of the Local Education Authority to which they belonged
- Whether the pupils had previously attended a state or an independent school
Admissions Main School, 1983 - 1994.
Contains the following information about pupils:
- Name
- Age on entry into the school
- The class in which placed on entry into the school
- Whether the pupils had a free place or a reserved place with details of the Local Education Authority to which they belonged
Admissions Preparatory Department, 1946 - 1983
Contains the following information about pupils:
- Name
- School roll number
- Age on entry to the school
- Class in which placed on entry to the school
- Whether the previous school attended was a state or an independent primary school
- Between 1967 and 1983, the name of the previous school is given
Admissions Preparatory Department, 1983 - 1995
Contains the following information about pupils:
- Name
- School roll number
- Between 1983 and 1990, the age on entry to the school
- Class in which placed on entry to the school
- Name of the previous school
SCHOLARSHIPS
One large, black notebook, hand written.
There is a label on the front cover on which is written: "MHSG Scholarship Holders, Free Places, Junior Hulme and School Certificate," but this is almost illegible.
On the flyleaf is a note about the statistics of the standards of literacy of pupils. This has been taken from an article by Fred J. Schonell in "The Times Educational Supplement," 23 February 1946.
