Editorial

A Musical Society has been formed.

Several mistresses have left.

The school is larger "and we are becoming rather cramped for space."

The school was visited by the following who are "observing the general working of the school," Dr Meyer of the Prussian Board of Education, Mr Mrs Ratan Tata of Bombay, Yoshio Noda a professor of Pedagogy of Nora, Japan.

A party of girls in the Seniors and Sixths spent a week with Miss Burstall in London studying history.

Miss Burstall's book on the history of the school is in the press.

Free Trade Hall Meeting

Description of Speech Day. Sir Edward Donner took the chair. The guests included the following: Mrs Behrens the Mayoress, Bishop Welldon the Dean of Manchester, Sir William Stephens, Prof Dixon.

Sir Edward Donner spoke of the successful government inspection.

Miss Burstall spoke of the increasing difficulty of exams and the idleness and ignorance among women.

School Concert

Reference to the school concert at which the girls "as usual wore white frocks and yellow sashes and ribbons."

 

Governors

Owing to the new scheme introduced by the government there are additional governors:

Mrs Rawcliffe representing the Lancashire Education Authority,

Miss E M Greg representing the Cheshire Council,

Alderman Turnball representing the Manchester City Council in place of

Councillor Howell.

William Burton has also joined the Governors.

Prof Tout has become Ford Lecturer in History at Oxford University.

Description of items made. Miss Rye superintendent of the Nurses' Home contacted Miss Gaskell who in turn contacted Miss Burstall to give her thanks. Some items were sent to Miss Dendy.

Amateur Musical Society

An Amateur Musical Society has been founded for the V and VI Forms. At the first meeting the subject for discussion was national music.

The Seniors' Miscellaneous Society

One meeting was held on Miss Burstall's birthday, Miss Willis and Miss Long were also present. The topic for discussion was "Is the English workman more careless than the German?" The general view was that it was true and "people sighed over the endless possibilities if only women were in power."
