Editorial
Margaret Gaskell has died. "On October 28th, the day of her funeral, a short memorial service was held at 12 o' clock, the whole school being present and then the building was closed for the afternoon. Miss Burstall, Miss Harrison and some other mistresses, the head girl and another prefect represented the school at the funeral."
There was an extra half-holiday in response to the fact that "the King asked for an extra holiday for the children of Lancashire."
The Seniors have collected £5 for the upkeep of an Indian orphan.
A new Scientific Society has been set up for girls above the Upper IVs.

Speech Day
Miss Burstall said that the most striking change in the last 15 years has been the determination by parents that their daughters should earn their own living.
Sir Alfred Hopkinson, the guest speaker, spoke of the link between the school and Manchester University, of the need to enjoy success and the importance of doing one's best. He was glad that many girls wanted to earn their own living "but a woman's place has always been and always will be the home."

Conference on the Christian Education of Women in India
The school hosted a conference on the Christian Education of Women in India. The immediate reason for this was the visit to India of Miss Roberts, head of Bradford Grammar School for Girls and Miss Eleanor McDougall a lecturer in Classics at Westfield College and an old girl. Rev D MacKichan, the head of the Wilson College in Bombay, spoke of the need for Christian education in India.

Our Old Girls' Ancoats Club
Miss Mellor has set up a club "with the double object of bringing Old Girls together and of helping our less fortunate sisters to acquire some knowledge of household management and to teach them that discipline and orderliness form the basis of all things." A social evening was held at which Miss Evans sang, Manchester High School girls gave a drill display under the direction of Miss Bourne and Miss Mellor spoke of the Club�s purpose. At another meeting "there was marching and drilling" and Miss Sprunt taught the members a dance, Gathering Peascods. At present there is only one meeting a week but there will soon be sewing classes and help will be given to the girl guides "at their house in Ancoats."
