Editorial

The school now has 600 pupils which is the limit of its numbers, when the school assembles in the hall "there does appear to be a vast array of plaits and form-colours."

Lady Bryce [nee Marion Ashton] visited the school. She was a governor 25 years ago. Her 2 sisters, Miss Margaret Ashton and Mrs Broadhurst are now governors.

The chairman [unnamed] paid tribute to the work of Margaret Gaskell, Edward Donner and Miss Day.

The guest speaker, Prof Bompas Smith, Head of King Edward VII School, Lytham, gave the address. He spoke about the importance of pride in the school, the character or "voice" which a school has which is derived from its history and school as a community.

Gymnastic Competition

Description of the gymnastic competition. The team led by Dorothy MacInnes won the most marks. Olive Gimson won the Dixon Gymnastic Cup and Annie Barr won the Parry Junior Gymnastic Cup.

School Concerts

There were songs by the pupils of Miss Moakes, Mrs Byron Cooper and Miss Harrison.   Miss Webster gave a recital.

Lectures were given by Prof Boyd Dawkins and Miss Leach. There were visits to a gasworks and a glassworks.

 

Missionary Society

There are two study circles each reading a different book [titles given]. Rev Hope Scott of Withington gave a talk. Appeal for the making of items and the collection of subscriptions to pay for "our baby" a Bengali orphan.

Thanks to Miss Willis there are now three cups, one each for the junior, middle and senior parts of the school. Results of matches given.

[Note: this is the first time the game is called Net Ball and not  Basket Ball].
