The school continues to do a lot for the war effort, it has had official recognition  for this and "our work has been brought into the new County Association under Lord Shuttleworth.....Many old girls are working in banks, having filled the places of men who have gone to the front."

The British Association

The annual conference of the British Association for the Advancement of Science was held in Manchester and the meetings of the Educational and Agricultural branches were held at the school. Among the visitors were Mrs Sidgwick, Prof Dixon and Miss Coignou.

 

Speech Day

The guest speaker was Mrs Scharlieb "a most eminent lady doctor." She recommended medicine as a career for women not least because a doctor can earn £500 pa.

Prof Tout said that he hoped some girls would become teachers.

 

Miss Burstall's Birthday

£5 10s was collected for the East Lancashire branch of the British Red Cross Society.
