The Day Memorial Gymnasium
Work on the gymnasium began in late July and was finished by November half-term. It "is a beautiful building with its many windows and lofty roof. It is built of timber and asbestos, strengthened with steel, on a brick foundation and is a new type of building. The roof is red tiled and the interior is cream, primrose and brown. The lights are soft and well arranged". It was opened by Edward Donner on November 14 in the presence of guests, Lady Broadhurst, Mabel Lady Crossley, Sir Henry Miers Vice Chancellor of Manchester University, Mr Carson H M I and Miss Gauntlett H M I. Mr Padmore presided. Prof Tout was responsible for the collection of money and the plans. Speeches were made [details given]. Miss Harrison and Nora Hardman the head prefect gave votes of thanks.

Miss Treloar had to give up her work for the Guides, it was handed over first to Miss Sherlock and then to Miss Dutton. Two cadet patrols have been formed and were enrolled by Miss Behrens, the County Commissioner for SE Lancashire. The guides spent a weekend at Hope. Miss Dutton has given a shield for an inter-patrol competition. It was won by Primrose patrol. Results given of guides hockey matches.
