Lady Carlisle Scholarship, Girton
Irene Sutcliffe is the first old girl to win the Lady Carlisle Scholarship in Modern Languages at Girton. It is worth £100 for three years.
Classrooms
There was a flood from the top floor to the basement. Those girls whose classrooms were affected were very pleased.
Founders' Day
The guest speaker at Founders' Day was Dr Hewlett Johnson, Dean of Manchester. The theme of his speech was the importance of good manners.
Speech Day
The Speech Day for 1924 was postponed from July until October so that Miss Clarke could be there. She was welcomed by Mr Padmore, the chair of governors and the guest speaker, Vicountess Bryce. Viscountess Bryce is the daughter of Thomas Ashton "a great Manchester man" and she spoke about the attractions of Manchester. Mr Padmore appealed for money to pay for the playing fields, "a good pavilion" and new labs.

Talks were given by Miss Gedge and Miss M Willis. As a result of a Cake and Candy Sale, money was sent to the orphans in Chamnapatra and to Dr H M Byles at Margaret Hospital, Hangkow, China. Miss Harrison will be leaving to go to S Rhodesia "to help to work up sixty native schools in St Faith's Mission. These schools take four months to visit travelling in a mule cart."

A debate was held with Manchester Grammar School. A group of 20 girls were accompanied by Miss Lister. It was chaired by Mr Collinge. The motion was "Imperialism is an unjustifiable policy," proposed by Erica Smith and Mr Wassilevsky, opposed by Mr Revill and Lily Chapman. The motion was carried by a majority of one vote.
