The guest speaker was Canon Peter Green. A gymnastic display was held in the afternoon which was repeated the following Saturday.

Art

Extract given of the comments on the work for the Exhibition of the Society of Modern Painters by Miss Ritchie and Miss Saunders. At the exhibition of Manchester Artists' Work the work of the following was exhibited:  Miss Ritchie, Kathleen Hale, Christine Myers, Rosa Hope, Christine Stephenson [nee Hope].

A group of girls who have taken History of Painting courses saw an exhibition [details given] in London with Miss Saunders, Miss Ritchie and Miss Ludlam.

 

Drama

A curtain designed and partly made by Vera Richardson was used in a play put on by the Unnamed Society.

 

Civil Service Examinations

Open Competitive Examinations are being reintroduced among women aged 18-20 for posts in the Departmental Class of the Ministry of Labour. Details can be obtained from Miss Clarke.

Mr Padmore said that all the school debt had been wiped out "by rigid economy and the greatest care." Miss Clarke reported that over 100 former pupils are studying at 13 English universities. The guest speaker, the Duchess of Atholl MP and Under Secretary of State for Education, spoke of the school's distinguished history, the importance of exams and of a life of service.
