Speech Day

The guest speaker was Dr Moberly, the Vice Chancellor of Manchester University. He said that education helped people to get the best things in life and to help others by having a sympathetic understanding of them, thus preventing the suspicion between the classes which is one of the greatest dangers of the age.

 

Music

Explanation of the arrangements for string lessons by Mrs Proudlock and Miss Kathleen Moorhouse. Details of the music played at the lunchtime concerts by the following: Miss Webster, Miss Warburton, Mrs Proudlock, Miss Brodrick, Miss Arthan, Madame Lamb, Miss Kathleen Moorhouse.

There have been visits to Halle and other concerts [details given]. Girls went to an exhibition of old keyboard instruments at the Kendal Galleries and heard a lecture by Mr Henderson.

Miss Burstall's Screen

Appreciation of the embroidered screen made by Miss Burstall. "Everyone admires the glowing flowers and the handsome peacock with the cloud behind its head." It contains 126,000 stitches. It is now kept in the library.

The Kamberian Cup

The cup for speech which was presented by the Kamberian family was won by Upper V A. It has helped to stimulate interest which has led to the formation of a Dramatic Society this term.

The main event of the year has been the Model Assembly which is the first to have been held in a Manchester school. There are about 330 members and a Junior branch has been formed. About 100 Upper IVths have joined the study circles, 14 teachers took these once a fortnight for 10 minutes. It is hoped that Vths will take them as a "step in the direction of girls sharing in the management of the Branch." There was a talk by Prof Naylor and some girls attended the Model Assembly at Whalley Range.
