Founders' Day
Miss Burstall was the guest speaker on Founders� Day.
Playing Fields
The Governors have agreed to pay for part of the cost of draining and relaying the fourth hockey pitch at the playing fields. Details given of other contributions to the cost.
Music
The school choir was placed fourth at the Manchester and District Choir Festival for Girls� Secondary Schools. Details given of the music performed at the lunchtime recitals. The performers were Miss Arthan, Miss Moorhouse, Miss Bennett, Miss Brodrick, Mme Lamb, Miss Walker, Miss Warburton, Miss Webster, Miss Proudlock.
A senior concert took place at which a collection was made to buy an oboe. Details given of a music competition in the lower school which was judged by Miss Attridge of Bury Grammar School and Miss Holt the Dalcroze Eurhythmic teacher for Manchester. Mrs Proudlock took a group of girls to hear the St Matthew Passion in the cathedral. It is hoped that more girls will learn the cello to balance the strings in the orchestra. Miss Tait and Mme Lamb have given music to the library.
Support for Durham Miners
Six sacks of clothing containing about 260 garments and shoes have been sent to the distressed miners' families in Durham. Miss Bourne and Miss Powicke would be glad of further contributions.
The Adamson Memorial Prize
The Adamson Memorial Prize was awarded to Joyce Weinberg for excellence in French.
Drill Competitions

Founders' Day
The guest speaker, Miss Burstall stressed the tradition of the school and its continuity. She remembered Miss Annie Adamson, Mary Gaskell and Augustus Samuel Wilkins with particular affection. She paid tribute to the A S Wilkins' encouragement of classics in the school and "to him also the school owed the establishment of the Secretarial and Housecraft Departments." To Charlotte, Lady Broadhurst one of the daughters of Thomas Ashton "they owed their fine gymnasium." She stressed the importance of religion and of doing one's best for the honour of the school. She also hoped that some of the pupils would take an interest in work overseas.
School Dramatic Productions
In March the recently formed Dramatic Society put on its first public productions. It is hoped that these plays will replace those performed by the Junior and Senior VI and will help to raise money for charity. Comments made on the plays which were:
