The Jubilee of the Old Girls' Federation will be celebrated in May.

 

Mrs J Davidson Peattie

The school sent a gift [details given] to Mrs J Davidson Peattie in token of her year as Lady Mayoress.

 

School Uniform

£An attempt is being made to devise for general school use as well as for drill and games, garments which shall be hygienic and attractive both from the point of view of the wearer and of the beholder. This is not such an easy task as may appear; but the members of the Clothes Committee are at last beginning to see light in the labyrinth of garments through which they have worked their way."

The members of the Old Girls� Hockey Club are called the Old Mancastrians. There are two teams and the first team is still unbeaten. A whist drive was held in the School Pavilion. Miss Mellor is remaining President of the Hockey Club and the new Vice Presidents are S Ashworth and Kathleen Hammond [nee Lawson]. There are two netball teams and two members have been chosen to play for the county and three members have been chosen to play for the second county team [no details given].

A mid-week meeting was held and more members were able to attend. Miss Burstall was there and had her new doctor's robes. She, Philippa Esdaile and Mrs Coatman gave a description of Miss Burstall's investiture as an honorary LL. D. At another meeting, Miss Burstall and Miss Clarke were present and the formation of new Societies in Scotland and Western England was announced.

There were 17 members at the AGM and also Dr Burstall and Miss Adams. Miss Adams represents the Headmistresses� Association on the Burnham Committee. The Treasurer reported a balance of 1s 6d. It was agreed that former members of staff should be admitted as members of the Society and it was suggested that an attendance register should be kept. Members are sorry that Miss Willis is retiring.

Golden Rule

Over 100 garments were made and distributed last year. There is a growing interest in decorating the clothes. "The Golden Rule supplies the opportunity of giving every child a new garment and for many little children in our big cities this must be a rare thing."

Motion carried.

A meeting was held with the League of Nations Union in which Miss Fisher gave a short account of the state of the world and there was then a discussion.

League of Nations Society

There will be 6 or 7 meetings of the study circles instead of the usual 12. Prof Roxby gave a talk on the situation in China and Japan. A meeting was held with the Debating Society in which Miss Fisher spoke of the state of the world and there was a discussion.
