Sara Burstall visited the school in September 1935. She hopes to attend Founders� Day.
Events
Dr Stopford, a governor and also Vice-Chancellor of Manchester University will be the guest speaker on Founders' Day. There has been a successful harvest festival, school concert and a dinner committee has been set up. The Heyrod St Jumble Sale raised £10 for its holiday fund and the Golden Rule Society made garments and gave books and toys "to gladden the hearts of little children and their mothers in the neighbourhood."

Description of a "hand-written inscription which now hangs in a frame on the bottom corridor outside the staff common room" which commemorates the death of Edward Donner and which contains the names of the founders and the inscription "The School was founded December 29th 1874." [sic]

Details of items bought with money from the Micholl Bequest Fund. Eira Jupe Memorial Fund
The appeal for the Eira Jupe memorial Fund raised £117 12s. It is not certain how this will be spent.
Speech Day 1935
The guest speaker on Speech Day 1935 was Lady Moberly. Her theme was the wisdom of remaining young in spirit. "The rainbow effect of the varied range of colours in the new summer uniform was lively and pleasing and we did not regret the change from the time-honoured white party frock."

A debate was held at Manchester Grammar School. Girls were accompanied by Miss Tiano and Miss Joseph. The topic was, "Sport plays too large a part in modern life," proposed by Mr Rowe and Margaret Burgess, opposed by Marian Nicholson and Mr Moore. The motion was lost.
"�We are considering the adoption of the Grammar School's policy of chairing our own meetings".

Thanks to all who contribute to the work of the Society. The annual show of garments made was held on 18 December 1935.
League of Nations Union
There are 166 members, including teachers. Papers were given by the Current Events Class and there was time for questions. Leonard Behrens gave a talk on different attitudes to war [details given]. Miss Watson gave a talk of Sweden and Denmark. Miss Ritchie gave a talk on her visit to Russia. It is hoped that members were take a real interest in the Society �especially during this time of League action in the Italo-Abyssinian dispute.�

Miss Brownson is the new leader of the orchestra and there is one new flautist and another will join next term. There is only one cello. Details given of pieces played and rehearsed.
