The International People's College, Elsinore, Denmark, 15 July 1934

Includes comments on the characteristics of different nationalities including the following: "The Americans are definitely looking for information. They are not afraid to ask the most nave questions and solemnly write down the answers in a notebook for future reference. The Germans are very anxious to keep the discussion at a high philosophical level and are amazed by the ribaldry with which the Danes appear to treat important questions. The Chinese and the English are alike in having too strong a sense of humour to become very much involved in any discussion. And the Swedes, while appearing to agree with what is said, smile to themselves in a mysterious way which makes one suspect that they have a better grasp of the problem that any of us..... The finest achievement of the college is a real feeling for international democracy. Here we have Chinese government officials, American school teachers, Swedish farmers and German clerks living together in a fine fellowship and through these personal contacts gaining interest and respect for the nations themselves that will last their life through. It is through the support of institutions such as this that we can hope finally to uproot the feelings of fear and suspicion which nations hold towards one another."
